Appletts are chewy, nut-studded gelatin treats with a fresh apple flavor, perfect for snacking or sharing at gatherings, offering a delightful balance of sweetness and crunch.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup thick applesauce (unsweetened)
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 3/4 cup chopped walnuts
  • 2 envelopes Knox gelatine
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Combine gelatine with 1/4 cup applesauce and let set for 5 minutes.
  2. In a saucepan, combine all ingredients except nuts.
  3. Bring to a boil and cook for 5 minutes.
  4. Add the gelatine mixture to the boiling ingredients.
  5. Boil for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  6. Add chopped walnuts just before removing from heat.
  7. Pour the mixture into a buttered and powdered sugar-dusted 8 x 10-inch pan.
  8. Let stand until firm.
  9. Cut into squares and shake in a sack of powdered sugar to coat.
