Ingredients

  • 3 pt. white sugar
  • 1 pt. cream
  • 1/4 lb. butter
  • 1/4 tsp. soda
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • nuts

Instructions

  1. Pour 1 pint of sugar into a skillet.
  2. Place over low heat; brown the sugar and stir to prevent scorching, taking 20 to 30 minutes.
  3. Put 2 pints of sugar with cream into a deep pan.
  4. Cook until all sugar is dissolved, without stirring.
  5. Pour the burnt sugar slowly into the sugar and cream mixture until a firm ball forms in cold water.
  6. Remove from fire.
  7. Add soda, vanilla, and butter.
  8. Set aside and let cool until lukewarm, then beat well.
  9. Add nuts.
  10. Pour into a buttered pan.
  11. Slice into squares when cool.
