Ingredients

  • 3 slices bread, grated
  • 1/2 c. whole milk
  • 2 lb. ground beef
  • 1/2 lb. Sweet Italian Sausage Meat
  • 3 1/2 c. spaghetti sauce
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/4 c grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 tsp. oregano
  • 1 tsp. basil
  • 3 Tb olive oil

Instructions

  1. 1. Preheat oven to 375. Lightly grease a 12" x 16" casserole with vegetable oil.
  2. 2. Put the bread in a medium bowl, pour in the milk & let sit for 1 minute.
  3. 3. In a large bowl, combine meat, bread mixture, 1/2 c. spaghetti sauce, eggs, cheese, oregano & basil, using your hands.
  4. 4. Shape the meat mixture into 1.5 inch balls by rolling them between your palms. Arrange the balls on a large platter or baking sheet.
  5. 5. Measure 1.5 T. of the oil into a large frying pan & place over medium-high heat for about 1 minute. Add 1/2 of the meatballs and cook until brown on all sides, turning as needed, about 5 minutes.
  6. 6. Transfer the cooked meatballs to the prepared casserole & repeat with the remaining oil & meatballs. When all the meatballs are browned, pour the remaining 3 cups spaghetti sauce into the casserole, covering all the meatballs.
  7. 7. Cover the casserole dish with aluminum foil & bake for 30 minutes until the meatballs are firm and cooked through. Remove the foil & bake for 15 minutes more.
  8. Serve over hot spaghetti noodles.
