Tips & Substitutions

For a richer flavor, consider using buttermilk instead of regular milk. If you prefer a lighter version, you can use egg substitutes in place of the egg yolks. Ensure the raisins are well-soaked to maintain moisture in the dough. Adjust the quantity of sugar based on your sweetness preference. This recipe can also be adapted for a vegan version by using plant-based butter and yogurt.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use whole wheat flour instead of all-purpose flour?

Yes, you can substitute whole wheat flour for some or all of the all-purpose flour. Keep in mind that whole wheat flour will yield a denser bread, so you may need to adjust the liquid slightly to achieve the right dough consistency.

What can I do if my dough doesn't rise?

If your dough doesn't rise, it may be due to inactive yeast. Ensure your yeast is fresh by testing it in warm water with a bit of sugar before adding it to the mixture. Additionally, make sure the environment is warm enough for rising; consider placing the dough in a slightly heated oven.

How can I make this recipe gluten-free?

To make this recipe gluten-free, substitute the all-purpose flour with a gluten-free flour blend. Look for blends that contain xanthan gum, which helps mimic the elasticity of gluten. Adjust the liquid amounts as needed, as gluten-free flours can absorb moisture differently.
