Ingredients

  • 1/8 cup skimpy yeast
  • 1/8 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup warm water
  • 2 cups warm milk
  • 1 1/2 cups flour
  • 8 egg yolks
  • 2 1/2 tablespoons rum
  • 1/2 pound Imperial oleo
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon lemon rind

Instructions

  1. Dissolve yeast and 1/8 cup sugar in warm water; let rise until foamy.
  2. When cool, add the yeast to the mixture made by combining warm milk and 1 1/2 cups flour; let rise until foamy.
  3. While this is rising, beat the egg yolks until foamy and of thick yellow consistency.
  4. Add the rum and oleo; beat until well mixed.
  5. Add 1 cup sugar; beat until thick.
  6. Add lemon rind.
  7. Combine the risen yeast mixture with the egg yolk mixture and mix well.
  8. Knead the dough until fluffy and thick; set aside to rise again before baking.
