Ingredients

  • 3 (10 oz.) cans pork and beans
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 1/3 small green pepper, diced
  • 1/3 small red sweet pepper, diced
  • 1 cup dark brown sugar
  • 1/3 cup dark molasses
  • 1 small stalk celery, diced
  • 4 oz. tomato paste
  • dash garlic salt
  • salt
  • pepper
  • 1 lb. ground beef
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • Mozzarella cheese

Instructions

  1. Brown the hamburger with diced onion, diced celery, and diced peppers in a skillet.
  2. Drain excess fat and set aside.
  3. In a baking dish, combine the pork and beans, cooked hamburger mixture, tomato paste, dark brown sugar, dark molasses, bacon bits, garlic salt, salt, and pepper.
  4. Mix all ingredients well to combine.
  5. Place slices of butter over the top of the mixture and sprinkle with shredded mozzarella cheese.
  6. Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 30 minutes until bubbly and golden.
