- Scald cabbage in salted hot water; drain well.
- Mix ground beef, salt, chopped onion, beaten egg, bread crumbs, and pepper; form into 12 to 14 beef balls.
- Place beef balls in cabbage leaves; fold and roll up.
- Fasten each roll with toothpicks.
- Place rolls in a buttered casserole dish.
- Pour 1 1/2 cups warm water over cabbage rolls and cover.
- Bake at 350°F for 1 hour.
- Remove cover; bake for an additional 15 minutes, until golden brown.
