Ingredients

  • 12 to 14 cabbage leaves
  • 1 1/2 lb. ground beef
  • 1 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • 1/4 cup bread crumbs
  • 1/2 tsp. pepper
  • 1 1/2 cups warm water

Instructions

  1. Scald cabbage in salted hot water; drain well.
  2. Mix ground beef, salt, chopped onion, beaten egg, bread crumbs, and pepper; form into 12 to 14 beef balls.
  3. Place beef balls in cabbage leaves; fold and roll up.
  4. Fasten each roll with toothpicks.
  5. Place rolls in a buttered casserole dish.
  6. Pour 1 1/2 cups warm water over cabbage rolls and cover.
  7. Bake at 350°F for 1 hour.
  8. Remove cover; bake for an additional 15 minutes, until golden brown.
