- Wash the okra thoroughly and while wet, slice into 1/2-inch pieces.
- Add salt, cornmeal, and flour to the sliced okra and stir well with a spoon.
- Have a medium-sized, hot frypan ready with bacon drippings in it.
- Let the okra heat in the pan for 2 or 3 minutes, then stir lightly.
- Place a pat of butter on top of the okra in the pan.
- Set the pan of okra into a hot oven.
- Bake for 30 minutes at 350°F (175°C).
