Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup cold coffee
  • 2 cups peeled, cored, and chopped fine apples
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup nuts
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1 1/2 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon soda
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Cream the sugar, shortening, and egg together.
  2. Alternate adding dry ingredients and cold coffee to the creamed mixture.
  3. Fold in the chopped, peeled, and cored apples.
  4. Pour the batter into a greased 9 x 9-inch square pan.
  5. Sprinkle the brown sugar, cinnamon, and nuts on top of the batter.
  6. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 45 minutes.
  7. Serve with whipped cream.
