Baked Stuffed Apples

Ingredients

  • 6 large baking apples
  • 1/2 cup raisins or chopped dates
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/3 cup chopped walnuts or pecans
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Core the apples and peel halfway down from the top.
  2. Place the apples in a baking dish and fill the centers with a mixture of nuts and dried fruit.
  3. In a small saucepan, combine water, sugar, nutmeg, and cinnamon. Bring to a boil while stirring, then simmer for 8 to 10 minutes.
  4. Pour the syrup over the apples and bake at 350°F (175°C) for 40 to 45 minutes.
  5. Baste the apples with the syrup 3 or 4 times during baking.
