Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • dash of salt
  • 3 tablespoons flour
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 cups milk
  • 2 eggs

Instructions

  1. Mix sugar, salt, and flour together; add enough milk to moisten.
  2. Add egg yolks; mix well.
  3. Add the rest of the milk and butter. Cook in a saucepan over medium heat until thick, stirring constantly to prevent sticking or scorching.
  4. Cool the mixture and then add vanilla.
  5. Save egg whites for meringue or other uses.
