Ingredients

  • 2 cups milk
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 2 eggs, separated
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

Instructions

  1. Scald 1 1/2 cups of milk.
  2. Combine sugar, flour, cornstarch, and salt in a double boiler.
  3. Stir in 1/2 cup of milk and egg yolks into the dry ingredients.
  4. Cook over heat until thickened, then remove from heat.
  5. Add butter and vanilla, and let cool slightly.
  6. Pour the custard into a baked pie shell.
  7. Cover with meringue and serve.
