Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1/2 cup margarine or butter
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, beat shortening and margarine or butter with an electric mixer on medium to high speed about 30 seconds or until softened.
  2. Add about half of the flour, the sugar, egg, milk, vanilla, baking soda, and salt to the shortening mixture. Beat until thoroughly combined, scraping sides of bowl occasionally.
  3. Stir in the remaining flour.
