Ingredients

  • 1 lb. green beans (frozen or canned)
  • 4 slices bacon
  • 1/3 cup finely chopped onion
  • 2 tablespoons vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon monosodium glutamate (optional)

Instructions

  1. Wash, string, and break the green beans.
  2. Cook the beans in water for 15 to 20 minutes until tender.
  3. Meanwhile, fry the bacon until crisp and set aside.
  4. Add chopped onion, vinegar, water, sugar, salt, and optional MSG to the bacon drippings in the skillet.
  5. Bring the mixture to a boil.
  6. Drain the cooked beans.
  7. Pour the bacon mixture over the beans and toss lightly to combine.
