Ingredients

  • 9 medium cucumbers (about 4 1/2 inches long)
  • boiling water
  • 2 1/3 cups vinegar
  • 2 1/4 cups sugar
  • 2 tablespoons salt
  • 1 tablespoon celery seed
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons turmeric
  • 3/4 teaspoon mustard

Instructions

  1. Select fresh firm cucumbers about 4 1/2 inches long.
  2. Wash and cut into sticks.
  3. Pour boiling water over the cucumber sticks and let stand overnight. Next day, drain.
  4. Pack the cucumber sticks solidly into clean jars.
  5. Combine vinegar, sugar, salt, celery seed, turmeric, and mustard in a saucepan and boil for 5 minutes.
  6. Pour the hot pickling liquid over the cucumbers in the jars.
  7. Place the cap on each jar and screw on the band tightly.
  8. Process the jars in a boiling water bath for 5 minutes.
