Ingredients

  • 1/2 lb. butter
  • 8 eggs
  • 1 Tbsp. vanilla or almond extract
  • 8 c. flour
  • 2 lb. almonds, chopped
  • 4 Tbsp. anise
  • 3 c. sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. salt

Instructions

  1. Mix all ingredients together and knead until well combined.
  2. Shape the dough into two loaves and place on a baking sheet.
  3. Bake at 350°F until the loaves are firm and golden, about 20 minutes.
  4. Let the loaves cool for 10 minutes.
  5. Slice the loaves into 1/2-inch thick slices.
  6. Rebake the slices on an ungreased cookie sheet until crispy, about 10-15 minutes.
