Ingredients

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup raisins
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/3 cup chopped nuts

Instructions

  1. In a medium-sized bowl, combine flour, baking powder, and baking soda; set aside.
  2. In a saucepan, boil sugar, raisins, shortening, and water for 5 minutes.
  3. Add the boiling mixture to the dry ingredients and mix well.
  4. Stir in chopped nuts.
  5. Spoon the batter into a well-greased 8 x 8-inch cake pan.
  6. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 20 to 25 minutes.
  7. Serve in pieces on a feeder tray or ground feeder.
