Ingredients

  • 1/4 c. warm water
  • 1 pkg. yeast
  • 3/8 c. warm milk
  • 2 1/2 c. flour
  • 1/4 c. raisins
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1/8 c. shortening
  • 1/2 tsp. lemon rind
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 c. sugar
  • 1/4 c. pecans

Instructions

  1. Sprinkle yeast in warm water; let stand 5 minutes.
  2. Mix milk, sugar, salt, shortening and lemon rind.
  3. Stir until shortening is well mixed.
  4. Stir in egg.
  5. Add raisins and nuts.
  6. Add 1 1/4 cups flour and mix well.
  7. Add rest of flour and knead until smooth.
  8. Put in bowl and rise double.
  9. Punch down and let rise again for 45 minutes.
