Ingredients

  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 pound dates (about 2 1/2 cups)
  • 1 cup flaked coconut
  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts

Instructions

  1. Combine sugar and milk in a 2-quart saucepan. Cook over medium heat to soft ball stage (234°F), stirring occasionally.
  2. Add dates and cook, stirring constantly, until mixture is very thick and leaves the side of the pan when stirred. Remove from heat.
  3. Stir in coconut and chopped nuts.
  4. Cool slightly. Turn out onto a wet towel.
  5. Place in refrigerator and chill.
  6. Make a roll 2 inches in diameter and about 18 inches long, like rolls of cookie dough.
  7. Cut into slices to serve.
