Braised Apple Dumplings

Ingredients

  • 10 slices white bread
  • 1/2 c. Mazola margarine
  • 4 to 5 medium size apples, pared, cored and thinly sliced
  • 1/4 c. raisins
  • 1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 c. dark Karo syrup
  • 1/4 c. brown sugar
  • 3 Tbsp. chopped walnuts

Instructions

  1. Remove crust from bread.
  2. Melt Mazola in a large skillet.
  3. Add bread and toss lightly.
  4. Cook over medium heat, turning often until toasted.
  5. Add apples, raisins, cinnamon
  6. and syrup; toss to coat.
  7. Cover and cook over low heat for 30 minutes, tossing occasionally, turning once or twice until apples are tender. Sprinkle with brown sugar and chopped walnuts.
  8. Yields 6 to 8 servings.
  9. Very good.
