Ingredients

  • 1 Tbsp. shortening
  • 2 lb. beef, cut into cubes
  • 1 can condensed beef consomme
  • 1/3 c. red Burgundy wine or cranberry juice
  • 2 Tbsp. soy sauce
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1/4 tsp. onion salt
  • 2 Tbsp. cornstarch
  • 1/4 c. water
  • rice or noodles

Instructions

  1. Melt shortening in a large skillet and brown the beef cubes on all sides.
  2. Stir in the condensed beef consomme, red Burgundy wine or cranberry juice, soy sauce, minced garlic, and onion salt.
  3. Bring the mixture to a boil.
  4. Reduce heat, cover, and simmer for 1 hour or until the meat is tender.
  5. Blend cornstarch with water and gradually stir into the meat mixture.
  6. Cook, stirring constantly, until the sauce thickens.
  7. Serve over rice or noodles.
