Ingredients

  • 3 cups whole wheat flour
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded bran cereal
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 1/2 cups water
  • 1/4 cup molasses or honey
  • 1 cup sunflower nuts
  • margarine or olive oil for greasing
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 3 packages active dry yeast
  • 1 cup milk

Instructions

  1. Grease 2 (8 1/2 x 2 1/2 x 4 1/2-inch) loaf pans.
  2. Mix 2 cups all-purpose flour, 2 tablespoons sugar, shredded bran cereal, salt, and active dry yeast in a large bowl.
  3. Heat 1 1/2 cups water, 1 cup milk, 1/4 cup molasses or honey, and 1/4 cup olive oil to 125° to 130°F.
  4. Stir the heated mixture into the flour mixture until well combined.
  5. Beat on low speed for 1 minute, then on medium speed for 1 minute.
  6. Stir in sunflower nuts and remaining 1 cup all-purpose flour, adding the flour gradually until a soft dough forms.
