Ingredients

  • 2 cups boiling water
  • 2 cups (100% Bran) cereal
  • 2 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1 heaping cup shortening
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 quart buttermilk
  • 6 cups flour
  • 5 teaspoons baking soda
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 4 cups Bran Buds cereal

Instructions

  1. Pour boiling water over the 100% Bran cereal and let stand.
  2. Cream together the sugar, shortening, and beaten eggs.
  3. Add the buttermilk and blend well.
  4. Add the bran and water mixture, then the flour, baking soda, salt, and Bran Buds cereal.
  5. Mix thoroughly until all ingredients are combined.
  6. Spoon the batter into greased waffle or muffin tins.
  7. Bake at 400°F for 16 to 19 minutes or until the tops are firm to touch.
