Ingredients

  • 1 gal. sliced cucumbers
  • 2 c. sliced onions
  • 1/2 c. salt
  • 2 c. sugar
  • 4 c. vinegar
  • 1 tsp. ground mustard
  • 1 tsp. celery seed
  • 1 tsp. turmeric
  • 2 dill heads
  • 1 tsp. chopped onion
  • 1/8 tsp. red pepper
  • 1/8 tsp. alum
  • 3 saccharin tablets
  • 1 qt. vinegar

Instructions

  1. Pour the hot vinegar mixture over the sliced cucumbers and onions.
  2. Ensure the cucumbers are covered with the pickling liquid.
  3. Save any remaining pickling liquid for another batch or use later.
  4. Pack the pickles into sterilized jars, leaving some headspace.
  5. Cold pack the jars and bring to a boil to seal.
  6. Remove from heat once the mixture begins to boil and seal the jars.
