Bread Crust Apple Cake

Instructions
- Butter a round cake or pie plate.
- Break bread into small pieces and put in a pan.
- Add milk and let the bread soak a little.
- Add beaten eggs, sugar, and vanilla, then stir lightly together.
- Pare and core the apples and cut them as for cake.
- Place the apples on top of the bread mixture.
- Use 4 tablespoons of butter and dot the top of the cake.
- Sprinkle with fine bread crumbs and cinnamon or nutmeg as preferred.
- Bake at 350°F for 1 hour until apples are brown and tender.
