Ingredients

  • 16 oz. can pitted sour red cherries, undrained
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 Tbsp. skim milk
  • 1 Tbsp. vanilla
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 egg white
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup corn oil margarine
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans

Instructions

  1. Combine cherries and 1/2 cup sugar in an 8-inch square baking pan, stirring well.
  2. Combine egg white, milk, and vanilla, stirring well to blend.
  3. Pour the egg white mixture over the cherries.
  4. Combine flour and brown sugar in a small bowl, stirring well to mix.
  5. Cut in margarine with a pastry blender until mixture resembles coarse meal.
  6. Stir in chopped walnuts or pecans.
  7. Sprinkle the crumb mixture over the cherry layer.
  8. Bake at 350°F for 40 to 50 minutes or until golden brown.
  9. Serve warm.
