Ingredients

  • 1 qt. milk
  • 2 c. day-old bread, crumbled or cubed
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 1/2 c. sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 3 Tbsp. butter, melted

Instructions

  1. Heat the milk in a saucepan and set aside.
  2. Place the bread crumbs in a mixing bowl and pour the hot milk over them.
  3. Add the salt and sugar to the mixture.
  4. Beat the eggs and add them to the mixture.
  5. Add the melted butter and vanilla extract, then mix well.
  6. Pour the mixture into a greased 1 1/2-quart baking dish.
  7. Place the dish in a larger baking pan and pour hot water into the larger pan to within 1 inch of the top of the dish.
  8. Bake until set and golden, approximately 45 minutes.
