  • 1 1/4 c warm milk

  4. Make the dough into rolls of desired size and place them in a greased or lined pan.
  5. Let the rolls rise in a warm place (such as an oven with the light on) for about 2 hours until doubled in size.
  6. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  7. Bake the rolls for 20 minutes until golden brown.
  8. Reduce the oven temperature to 350°F (175°C) and continue baking for another 20 minutes.
  9. Remove from oven and serve warm.

Tips & Substitutions

For best results, ensure your warm milk is around 110°F (43°C) to activate the yeast properly. If you prefer a richer flavor, you can substitute half the margarine with butter. Consider using bread flour instead of plain flour for a chewier texture. Adding herbs or cheese to the dough can elevate your rolls, making them a delightful addition to any meal.

Serving Suggestions

These rolls are perfect for serving alongside soups or salads. They pair beautifully with a rich stew or can be enjoyed with butter and jam for breakfast. For a more indulgent treat, consider serving them with the Glazed Club Crackers(Butterscotch) as part of a snack platter. They also make a great base for sliders!

Storage & Reheating

Once cooled, store leftover rolls in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days. For longer storage, freeze them in a freezer-safe bag for up to 3 months. To reheat, wrap in foil and warm in a 350°F (175°C) oven for about 10-15 minutes, or microwave for 15-20 seconds until warm.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use instant yeast instead of dry yeast?

Yes, you can use instant yeast in place of dry yeast. If using instant yeast, you can combine it directly with the dry ingredients without proofing it in warm milk. Just ensure to adjust the quantity to about 1.5 teaspoons for best results.

What if my rolls don't rise properly?

If your rolls don’t rise, it may be due to expired yeast or insufficient warmth. Always check the yeast's expiration date before use. If your kitchen is cold, try letting the dough rise in a slightly warm oven or covering it with a warm damp cloth to create a cozy environment.

Can I add other ingredients to the rolls?

Absolutely! You can customize your rolls by adding ingredients like garlic powder, shredded cheese, or fresh herbs to the dough. This adds flavor and makes for a unique twist on the classic roll recipe, making them perfect for any occasion.
