Brown Soda Bread
A hearty, wholesome brown soda bread with a slightly nutty flavor from whole wheat flour, perfect for breakfast or pairing with soups and stews. Easy to make and satisfying.

Instructions
- Put all-purpose flour in a bowl; add salt and baking soda and stir together with a fork.
- Add whole wheat flour and mix.
- Blend butter into flour mixture with a pastry blender.
- Make a well in the center and add buttermilk; stir until blended. The dough should be dry enough to knead but not too dry.
- Knead on a floured board for about 30 seconds.
- Pat the dough into a greased 8-inch pan (black frying pan).
- Cut gashes to form a cross on top of the dough.
- Bake in a preheated oven at 400°F (200°C) for about 30 minutes.
- Cool on a rack before slicing.
