Tips & Substitutions

For a richer flavor, consider adding a bay leaf or thyme while simmering. If fresh lima beans are available, they can be used instead of frozen. You can also substitute the shoe peg white corn with regular corn if needed. To enhance the stew's taste, try adding diced carrots or celery for additional vegetables. This dish pairs beautifully with Chicken Ovenmeal for a comforting meal.

Serving Suggestions

Serve this hearty Brunswick Chicken Stew with crusty bread or over a bed of rice for a filling meal. A simple green salad or steamed vegetables make excellent sides to complement the flavors. For a unique twist, try pairing it with Harvest Feast Potatoes to round out the meal.

Storage & Reheating

Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. To reheat, warm the stew gently on the stovetop over low heat, adding a splash of water or broth if it has thickened. You can also microwave individual portions until heated through, stirring occasionally to ensure even warming.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use different cuts of chicken for this stew?

Yes, you can use other chicken parts like thighs or drumsticks instead of chicken backs. Just ensure they are skinless for the best flavor and texture. Adjust cooking time as needed, ensuring the chicken is cooked through and tender before deboning.

Is it possible to make this stew in a slow cooker?

Absolutely! To make Brunswick Chicken Stew in a slow cooker, start by boiling the chicken as directed, then transfer the chicken and broth to the slow cooker. Add all other ingredients and cook on low for 6-8 hours or on high for about 4 hours until the vegetables are tender.

What can I do if the stew is too thick?

If your stew turns out too thick, simply add a little chicken broth or water to reach your desired consistency. Stir well and let it simmer for a few minutes to meld the flavors. Adjust the seasonings if needed after adding liquid.
