Ingredients

  • 2 1/4 cups cake flour
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1 teaspoon double acting baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup vegetable shortening
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 3/4 teaspoon other flavoring
  • 2 medium eggs

Instructions

  1. Sift together the cake flour, sugar, double acting baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  2. Add the vegetable shortening, buttermilk, vanilla, and other flavoring to the dry mixture.
  3. Beat the mixture for 2 minutes on high speed.
  4. Add the eggs and beat for an additional 2 minutes on high.
  5. Pour the batter into two greased 8-inch round cake pans.
  6. Bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 30 to 35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
