Ingredients

  • 1 pkg. dry yeast
  • 1 Tbsp. sugar
  • 1/4 c. lukewarm water
  • 2 c. flour, sifted
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 c. butter
  • 1/4 c. shortening
  • 2 egg yolks
  • 2 egg whites

Instructions

  1. Blend the yeast, sugar, and lukewarm water together in a small bowl; set aside.
  2. Combine the sifted flour, salt, butter, and shortening in a large mixing bowl.
  3. Cut butter and shortening into the flour and salt mixture with a pastry blender.
  4. Beat the egg yolks slightly with a fork; add to the flour mixture along with the yeast mixture.
  5. Mix well.
  6. Beat the egg whites until foamy.
  7. Gradually add sugar while beating until the mixture holds a stiff peak.
