- Melt butter, remove from heat and stir in brown sugar, vanilla extract, and finely chopped pecans.
- Sift together all-purpose flour and baking powder.
- Add the sifted dry ingredients to the butter mixture and mix until combined.
- Form the dough into 42 balls using rounded teaspoonfuls for each.
- Flatten one end of each ball by pressing on an ungreased cookie sheet and pinching the top to a point to resemble an acorn.
- Bake in a preheated moderate oven at 350°F for 15 minutes.
- Remove from oven and cool completely.
- Melt caramel or butterscotch pieces in a double boiler.
- Dip the flat end of each cookie into the melted butterscotch to a depth of 1/4 inch.
- Thoroughly coat the dipped end with chopped nuts.
