Ingredients

  • 4 eggs
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 3/4 cup cake flour
  • 3/4 tsp double-acting baking powder
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp cloves
  • 1 tsp vanilla

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit.
  2. Grease a baking pan.
  3. Place eggs and salt in a bowl over hot water.
  4. Beat until the eggs are thick and lemon colored.
  5. Gradually beat in sugar.
  6. Remove from the heat and stir in the measured flour.
  7. Resift with baking powder, cinnamon, and cloves.
  8. Fold in the sifted ingredients and vanilla.
  9. Bake the batter for about 13 minutes.
  10. When removed from the oven, loosen the edges of the cake.
  11. Reverse the pan onto a clean towel dusted with confectioners sugar.
  12. Roll the hot cake with the towel and place on a rack to cool.
