Ingredients

  • 1 small head cabbage, chopped
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1/2 onion, diced
  • 1/3 cup uncooked rice
  • 1 can tomato soup
  • 1 can water
  • 3 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar

Instructions

  1. Chop one small head of cabbage into the bottom of a 3-quart or larger casserole dish.
  2. In a skillet, brown the ground beef; add diced onion and uncooked rice.
  3. Spoon the cooked beef mixture over the chopped cabbage in the casserole dish.
  4. In the same skillet with beef drippings, add the tomato soup and water.
  5. Stir in tomato paste and brown sugar, then pour this mixture over the meat and cabbage in the casserole.
  6. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 1 1/2 to 2 hours, stirring once during baking.
