Ingredients

  • 1 small head cabbage (2 lb.)
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 1 1/2 lb. ground beef
  • 1/8 tsp. pepper
  • 3 c. water
  • 6 slices bacon
  • 1 c. uncooked rice
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 32 oz. jar Ragu with mushrooms

Instructions

  1. Quarter and shred the cabbage.
  2. Spread half of the shredded cabbage in a buttered 12-cup baking dish.
  3. Saute the bacon in a frying pan until the fat starts to cook out.
  4. Add chopped onions and uncooked rice to the bacon drippings and cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the onion is soft and the rice is lightly browned.
  5. Spoon the rice and onion mixture over the cabbage in the baking dish.
  6. Cook the ground beef and crumble it over the rice mixture.
  7. Sprinkle with salt and pepper.
  8. Top with the remaining shredded cabbage.
  9. Heat the Ragu with mushrooms and water to boiling.
  10. Pour the hot Ragu mixture slowly over the cabbage in the baking dish.
  11. Top with cooked bacon slices.
  12. Cover and bake at 400°F for 1 hour.
