Ingredients

  • 2 Tbsp. butter
  • 1 Tbsp. sugar
  • 1 1/2 tsp. lemon juice
  • 3 c. shredded green cabbage
  • 1/2 c. shredded tart apple
  • 1/4 c. chopped onion
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 c. dairy sour cream
  • 5 frozen fillo (phyllo) pastry sheets, thawed
  • 1/4 to 1/3 c. melted butter

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet, melt 2 tablespoons butter. Add sugar and lemon juice. Stir until sugar dissolves.
  2. Add cabbage, apple, onion, and salt. Cook over medium heat for 7 to 10 minutes or until vegetables are tender, stirring occasionally.
  3. Drain the mixture and let it cool slightly. Then, stir in the sour cream until well combined.
  4. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  5. Lay out the thawed filo pastry sheets and brush each sheet with melted butter.
  6. Place the filling along one edge of a sheet, then fold or roll to enclose the filling, creating a parcel.
  7. Repeat with remaining sheets and filling.
  8. Place the parcels on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.
  9. Serve warm as a savory appetizer or main course.
