- Thinly slice the yams.
- Brush melted butter over the bottom of a casserole dish and layer a third of the yams in the dish.
- Add half of the apple slices on top of the yams.
- Sprinkle with salt, pepper, and brown sugar.
- Drizzle with some of the melted butter.
- Add another layer of yams, then the remaining apple slices, and a final layer of yams.
- Sprinkle with salt and pepper.
- Drizzle with the remaining butter and maple syrup.
- Cover the dish and bake at 400°F for 45 minutes.
- Remove the lid and continue baking for about 15 minutes, until the yams are tender and the top is starting to crisp.
