Caitlin's Potatoes features tender yams layered with sweet apples, butter, and brown sugar, baked to a crispy, caramelized perfection—ideal for comforting family dinners or holiday gatherings.

Ingredients

  • 5 medium peeled yams
  • 8 Tbsp. butter
  • 1 apple
  • 3/4 tsp. salt
  • fresh ground black pepper
  • 2 Tbsp. maple syrup
  • brown sugar

Instructions

  1. Thinly slice the yams.
  2. Brush melted butter over the bottom of a casserole dish and layer a third of the yams in the dish.
  3. Add half of the apple slices on top of the yams.
  4. Sprinkle with salt, pepper, and brown sugar.
  5. Drizzle with some of the melted butter.
  6. Add another layer of yams, then the remaining apple slices, and a final layer of yams.
  7. Sprinkle with salt and pepper.
  8. Drizzle with the remaining butter and maple syrup.
  9. Cover the dish and bake at 400°F for 45 minutes.
  10. Remove the lid and continue baking for about 15 minutes, until the yams are tender and the top is starting to crisp.
