Ingredients

  • 4 c. flour
  • 4 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 c. brown sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 c. mashed potatoes
  • 1 c. milk
  • 4 Tbsp. Crisco oil
  • 1 tsp. nutmeg

Instructions

  1. Sift together 3 times the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  2. Mix brown sugar, eggs, mashed potatoes, milk, oil, and nutmeg until well combined.
  3. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until a sticky dough forms.
  4. Roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface with as little flour as possible.
  5. Cut into doughnut shapes using a cutter or glass.
  6. Fry in deep fat until the doughnuts puff up and turn golden brown, then turn and cook the other side.
  7. Remove from fryer and drain on paper towels.
