- Soak cucumbers in a mixture of 3/4 cup salt and 1 gallon water overnight.
- In a saucepan, boil 1 1/2 quarts vinegar, 3/4 cup salt, sugar, 2 1/2 quarts water, and pickling spice in a cloth.
- In canning jars, place dill weed or dill seed, garlic, mustard seed, and cucumbers.
- Pour the hot liquid mixture into the jars and seal.
- Process the jars in boiling water for 20 minutes to seal.
