Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup salt
  • 1 gallon water
  • cucumbers
  • 1 1/2 quarts vinegar
  • 3/4 cup salt
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 2 1/2 quarts water
  • 2 tablespoons whole pickling spice

Instructions

  1. Soak cucumbers in a mixture of 3/4 cup salt and 1 gallon water overnight.
  2. In a saucepan, boil 1 1/2 quarts vinegar, 3/4 cup salt, sugar, 2 1/2 quarts water, and pickling spice in a cloth.
  3. In canning jars, place dill weed or dill seed, garlic, mustard seed, and cucumbers.
  4. Pour the hot liquid mixture into the jars and seal.
  5. Process the jars in boiling water for 20 minutes to seal.
