Ingredients

  • 1/2 box yellow cake mix
  • 1 cup chopped walnuts
  • 1/3 cup butter or margarine
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon light corn syrup

Instructions

  1. Melt butter or margarine in a saucepan.
  2. Bring the melted butter, brown sugar, and light corn syrup to a boil.
  3. Pour the caramel mixture into an ungreased 9-inch square cake pan.
  4. Arrange chopped walnuts over the caramel mixture.
  5. Prepare the cake batter as directed on the package and pour over the walnuts.
  6. Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 35 minutes.
  7. Immediately invert the cake onto a serving plate, leaving the pan over the cake for 1 minute.
  8. Serve warm, optionally topped with whipped cream and a cherry.
