Cavatina is a hearty, cheesy pasta bake with savory sausage, pepperoni, and rich tomato flavors, perfect for a comforting family dinner or casual gathering.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb. sausage or hamburger
  • 1 medium onion
  • 1 pkg. pepperoni
  • 2 c. Mozzarella cheese
  • 10 oz. can tomato puree
  • 15 oz. can tomato sauce
  • 1/2 green pepper
  • 1 Tbsp. Italian seasoning
  • 4 c. dry rotini noodles
  • salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Brown sausage or hamburger with chopped onion and green pepper.
  2. Add tomato sauce and tomato puree to the meat mixture.
  3. Add half a can of water (from the tomato puree can).
  4. Stir in Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper.
  5. Cook uncovered for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  6. Meanwhile, boil the rotini noodles until al dente.
  7. Add cooked noodles to the sauce and mix well.
  8. Pour the mixture into a 13 x 9-inch baking pan.
  9. Top with shredded mozzarella cheese and slices of pepperoni.
  10. Bake at 425°F for 10 to 15 minutes until cheese is melted and bubbly.
