Ingredients

  • 1 loaf deli-style unsliced Italian bread
  • 1/4 cup yellow mustard
  • 1/4 cup onion, minced
  • 1 stick butter, melted
  • 1 tablespoon poppy seeds
  • 1 pound Swiss cheese, sliced
  • 10-12 slices bacon, partially cooked

Instructions

  1. Mix butter, mustard, minced onion, and poppy seeds in a bowl.
  2. Cut the crust from the loaf without removing the bottom crust.
  3. Slice the loaf 3/4 of the way through every 1 to 1 1/2 inches.
  4. Paint the entire loaf with the mustard mixture, including between the slices but not the bottom.
  5. Fold slices of Swiss cheese and place them between each bread slice across the loaf.
  6. Top each bread slice with a partially cooked bacon slice.
  7. Bake in a 350-degree Fahrenheit oven for 15 minutes until the cheese is melted.
  8. Place the loaf under the broiler to brown the bacon, watching closely to prevent burning.
  9. Slice and serve with your favorite soup.
