Ingredients

  • 1 cup sifted plain flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/3 cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons shortening
  • 1/2 cup grated cheese

Instructions

  1. Heat oven to 425°F.
  2. Sift flour, baking powder, and salt together.
  3. Cut shortening into the flour mixture; stir in milk.
  4. Turn out onto a floured board and knead lightly.
  5. Roll out into a rectangle and spread cheese over the dough.
  6. Roll like a jelly roll.
  7. Cut into 1-inch slices and place on top of the mixture in a casserole dish.
  8. Bake for 15 to 20 minutes.
