Cheesey Chive Scone Bread

Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cups self-rising flour
  • 1 tsp mustard powder
  • 2 tbsp chilled butter, chopped, plus extra, to serve
  • 2/3 cup cheddar, shredded
  • 4 tbsp chives, chopped
  • 1/2 cup milk

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Sift flour and mustard powder into a large bowl. Use fingertips or a food processor to rub in butter until mixture resembles breadcrumbs. Stir in cheese and chives and season to taste.
  3. Make a well in center of dry ingredients. Pour in milk and 1/2 cup water, mixing quickly to a soft dough. Turn onto a floured surface. Knead lightly and form into a 10 inch round. Transfer dough to baking sheet.
  4. Bake for 35-40 mins, base sounds hollow when tapped. Cut into wedges and serve warm with butter.
