- Heat oven to 275°F (135°C).
- Cover a baking sheet with heavy brown paper.
- Beat egg whites and cream of tartar until foamy.
- Gradually beat in 3/4 cup sugar, one tablespoon at a time, until mixture is stiff and glossy.
- Spoon meringue into desired shapes on the prepared paper, building it upwards.
- Bake for 1 1/2 hours.
- Turn off the oven and leave the meringue inside with the door closed for 1 hour.
- Remove from oven and let cool.
