Ingredients

  • 1 pkg. yellow cake mix
  • 1/4 cup margarine, softened
  • 3 oz. package cream cheese, softened
  • 1/3 cup water
  • 2 eggs
  • 21 oz. can cherry pie filling
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped pecans

Instructions

  1. Combine the cake mix, margarine, and cream cheese in a large bowl. Mix at low speed until fine crumbs form.
  2. Reserve 1 cup of crumbs for topping.
  3. To the remaining crumbs, add water and eggs. Beat for 2 minutes at the highest speed of the mixer.
  4. Grease a 9 x 13-inch pan.
  5. Pour the batter into the prepared pan.
  6. Spoon the cherry pie filling over the batter.
  7. Gently spread the pie filling to cover the batter.
  8. Combine the reserved crumbs with the chopped pecans.
  9. Sprinkle the crumb and pecan mixture over the cherry filling.
  10. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 35 to 45 minutes or until set in the center and edges are golden brown.
  11. Cool for 25 minutes, then glaze if desired.
