Cherry Oat Squares combine tart cherry filling with crunchy oat and walnut topping, creating a sweet, nutty dessert perfect for gatherings or afternoon tea.

Ingredients

  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1 cup chopped walnuts
  • 1 cup quick oats
  • 1/2 cup butter or margarine
  • 3/4 cup flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 can cherry pie filling

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F.
  2. In a large bowl, mix sugar, chopped walnuts, quick oats, butter or margarine, and flour until crumbly.
  3. Reserve 1 1/2 cups of the crumb mixture.
  4. Press the remaining crumb mixture into the bottom of a 9-inch square baking dish.
  5. Stir cinnamon into the can of cherry pie filling.
  6. Spread the cherry filling over the crust.
  7. Sprinkle the reserved crumbs over the top, pressing lightly.
  8. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes until golden brown.
  9. Cool before cutting into squares.
