Ingredients

  • 2 pkg. dry yeast
  • 1/4 cup warm water
  • 1 cup warm milk (110-115 degrees)
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup butter or oleo, softened
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 4 1/4 to 4 3/4 cups flour
  • 1 cup chopped pecans
  • 1/3 cup butter or oleo, softened

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water.
  2. Add milk, eggs, sugar, butter, salt, and 2 cups of flour; beat on medium speed for 3 minutes.
  3. Add enough remaining flour to form a soft but sticky dough. Do not knead.
  4. Cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled, about 1 1/2 hours.
  5. Beat 25 strokes with a heavy spoon, then turn onto a well-floured surface.
  6. Roll into a 16 x 12-inch rectangle.
  7. Combine pecans, 1/3 cup butter, brown sugar, and 2 tablespoons of flour with a fork.
  8. Spread evenly over the dough surface.
  9. Cut dough lengthwise into three strips.
  10. Roll up each strip jellyroll style, beginning at the long end.
  11. Pinch edges and ends to seal.
  12. Place the three rolls, seam-side down, diagonally on a foil-lined baking pan.
  13. Gently braid the ropes together without stretching; seal ends.
  14. Cover and let rise until doubled, about 1 hour.
  15. Bake at 350°F for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.
  16. Cool slightly on a wire rack.
