Cherry Slices are a delightful dessert featuring sweet cherry filling atop a tender, buttery crust, perfect for sharing at gatherings or enjoying as a sweet treat.

Ingredients

  • 2 (16 oz.) cans cherry pie filling
  • 1 cup shortening
  • 1 3/4 cups sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 3 cups flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F.
  2. Cream shortening; add sugar gradually. Add eggs one at a time, beating well.
  3. Stir in vanilla.
  4. Sift together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  5. Gradually add dry ingredients to the shortening mixture, beating well.
  6. Spread the batter in a greased 11 x 17-inch jelly roll pan.
  7. Reserve a little more than a cup of batter.
  8. Spread cherry pie filling to within 1/2 inch of the edges of the pan.
  9. Drop remaining dough by spoonfuls on top of cherry filling.
  10. Bake at 350°F for 45 minutes.
  11. When cool, sprinkle with powdered sugar.
